4 Juin 2006 - Our Lady of Perpetual Parties

This ethnic parade was sponsored by what is affectionately known as "Our Lady of Perpetual Parties" or "The Church of Perpetual Parties". It is the local Portuguese Catholic church. Apparently, every two weeks, they have a parade and/or festival. By August, their own homemade wine is available. Across the street from the church is a shop that sells all the sports and religious items you will ever need, as long as you are Catholic and only play football (know in the U.S. as "soccer"). We stumbled across their festivities on our way to the park on Sunday at 1pm. I heard the thumping of a big drum, which in my town of residence, Swissvale, means only one thing - the Swissvale Pride festival (as in, proud to be Swissvale - not the other Pride festival). And just like home, there were people marching down the street wearing ball gowns on a Sunday afternoon. I dragged Ike and Sopha down a parallel street to take photos of them head-on, nose-picking over-dressed children and all. We had a wonderful time. The church parking lot smelled of roasted meat, which I couldn't find for the life of me. When someone set off fire-crackers, Isaac high-tailed it to the parc, with Sophia and I in tow.
